When your first month is complete, you’ll just need the charcoal or peppermint refill packs. Pop open the biodegradable packaging and pour your new tabs into the tin you already have! The refill packaging is compostable and biodegradable so there is no waste.

How effective is natural toothpaste?
Many natural toothpaste brands offer very effective cleaning ingredients. While the natural toothpastes of yesteryear may have had questionable efficacy, today’s companies back up their claims through research. The natural toothpaste brands of today strive to create products that clean equally or better than their supermarket brand counterparts.

What natural ingredients are used in natural toothpaste?
Some of the most common natural toothpaste ingredients include:

• Coconut oil - promotes healthy gums and reduces plaque
• Baking soda - stain fighter
• Charcoal - whitens teeth
• Xylitol - a natural sweetener that also fights tooth decay
• Mint Oils or flavors - breath fresheners
• Tea Tree oil - fights bacteria and promotes fresh breath

What is hydroxyapatite, the fluoride alternative? If you are looking for a fluoride alternative that cleans effectively and protects your teeth, choose a toothpaste with hydroxyapatite as one of the main ingredients. Hydroxyapatite is a naturally-occuring compound made mostly of calcium and phosphate. Benefits of hydroxyapatite include

• Great cleaning ability
• Less abrasive than fluoride
• Restores worn enamel
• Whitens teeth
• Remineralizes dental caries (cavities)
• Strengthens teeth 

Hydroxyapatite is at least as effective as fluoride in its ability to remineralize cavities and prevent further demineralization. Since it is less abrasive, it can be a good option for those with sensitive teeth.  Long term studies are still needed to establish long term effects, but the research so far is promising for this fluoride alternative! ​
